Excellent females voices from the golden era from the soul classic with the love unlimited orchestra and Barry White of course.
I was unfamiliar with Love Unlimited except for their exceptional single, WALKING IN THE RAIN (WITH THE ONE I LOVE). What more could one ask for from a "girl group". I really also loved the liner booklet which detailed the group's creation and Barry's pragmatic words to the ladies advising them to enjoy their time in the sun and be ready to move on with their lives when it was over.Other tracks that stood out to me are: OH LOVE, WE FINALLY MADE IT, MOVE ME NO MOUNTAIN - exceptional choral & musical arrangements, LOVIN U, THAT'S ALL I'M AFTER, SHARE A LITTLE LOVE & I GUESS I'M JUST ANOTHER GIRL.One other track, I NEEDED LOVE - YOU WERE THERE, although I found the lyrics quite monotonous the song is saved by the stellar musical arrangement.I would highly recommend this disc to those who may be as curious as I was about old school soul music and another exceptional (but unheralded) female group. I know a lot of people compare female groups to the Supremes but Love Unlimited was in a class by themselves - their harmonies are t-i-g-h-t due to Barry White's strong hand in their creation and I've already mentioned his musicianship which created a match made in heaven. A distinctive lead vocalist, pure heavenly harmonies & Barry White's orchestration led to this collection of pure "eargasmic" pleasure for me. Growing up one of my older cousins loved Barry White so his music was always familiar to me and not until I was able to buy his music and listen to it on my own did I begin to appreciate what a talented musician he was.
I THINK SO. WHILE BARRY WHITE WAS ALIVE HE WOULD NOT ALLOW THIS CD ON THE MARKET.FOR YEARS I TRIED TO FIND IT & WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT OUT.WHEN I FINALLY GOT IT THE MEMORIES OF A GREAT ALBUM ALL CAME BACK TO ME.WAS IT REVENGE TO HIS EX WIFE THAT KEPT IT OFF THE SHELVES.
The songs all have the Love Unlimited Orchestra to back the ladies up giving them that big classy disco sound. I bought this cd because it had 2 songs I remembered from my childhood; "Walking In The Rain" and "I Belong To You", but I found some new favorites that I didn't hear before I heard this compilation - "Move Me No Mountain", "I Needed Love - You Were There" and "Fragile - Handle With Care". Listening to this album really helped me to realize what a musical genius Barry White really was, and I don't think many mainstream listeners realize that. The ladies didn't seem to have the range that other girl bands had back in the day like The Emotions, Sister Sledge, or most especially The Jones Girls, but I believe that he used there voices work very well for them and having the Love Orchestra behind them really helped to bring their voices out. If you're a Barry White fan, you can really appreciate this album. And if you listen closely, you can almost imagine Barry White himself singing some of them.
three beautiful voices singing love songs with an orchestra conducted by the late barry white
